Moving Into Croatia
From Trieste to Rijeka (Croatia) was quite a journey, not long but rainy. When I left Trieste, I stood on a crossing in the middle of the city not knowing what street to take to get into Slovenia. A guy stopped with his scooter and helped me kindly, showing me a good foot way. As I was almost at the location where the foot way started, around half an hour later he came towards me again with his scooter and invited me for lunch at his home. Previously I found out that was also a pilgrim on the St. Jacobs way. We had a good Italian meal together and I met his wife. It was good to receive hospitality from someone, they were the last Italians I met before I went into Slovenia and they were the only ones who invited me into their home during my whole walk through Italy. Just as I passed the border it started to rain intensely, this would continue until my arrival in Rijeka. So I stayed in a hotel once and in a bed and breakfast the other night. It was kinda hard to be in the rain again after almost three weeks of sunshine but it didn't bother me as much as it did in the beginning of the journey. I just take what comes and it doesn't influence my emotional wellbeing anymore. So after rain, storm and hail I'm here once again in a youth hostel in Rijeka, Croatia. The towns are most definitely getting quite eastern now. Everything is a little more broken and less taken care of. But I like it here very much, somehow the atmosphere is more humble and simple which fits better to my current lifestyle.
